Treatment of African trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness) caused by Trypanosoma brucei gambiense.

Treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis, although this use is less common.

Efnithin 13.9% Cream (Eflornithine) inhibits ornithine decarboxylase, an enzyme essential for the growth and reproduction of Trypanosoma brucei gambiense and some Leishmania species. By inhibiting this enzyme, eflornithine disrupts the parasite's metabolic processes, leading to its death.

Store at room temperature (below 25°C/77°F). Protect from light and moisture. Discard any unused medication after the expiration date.

Dosage and duration of treatment are determined by a physician based on the patient's condition and response to therapy. It is typically administered intravenously or orally.
